Mexico

Mayan Ruins, Aztec Sites, Beautiful Beaches, Colonial Towns, Colourful Markets.

Huge and varied, with great swathes of wild and untamed land, a country of great drama and spectacular landscapes, Mexico is so very much more than the strips of Caribbean and Pacific coast that most visitors limit themselves to. Rich and fascinating culture, stunning colonial towns, stylish hacienda hotels, Mayan temples, Aztec pyramids and colourful markets all form a rich tapestry.

Our own travels and numerous contacts in the country have uncovered small, privately owned properties and excellent private guides in Mexico’s most unique and least visited areas.

We work with some world-class beach properties and private houses - and these are in very specifically chosen locations, away from mass tourism. We also know that travelling successfully within Mexico needs expert knowledge to plan an itinerary that successfully navigates its complex transport systems.

Best visited: December to June

All itineraries are individually designed, but as a guide, we can arrange ten days in Mexico (not including flights) from £3000 per person.

Guides

Our relationships count for a lot and we still work with some of the same people we have worked with for twenty years. There is also constant change and the teams are always reviewing and adding to the experiences that they can offer and the lodges, hotels and guides that they work with.

Fernando Hernandez

guide

private guide mayan ruins Mexico

A Campeche native with a professional background in tourism dating back to 1975, Fernando got serious about anthropology and archaeology after studying tourism management at the University of Yucatan. Proudly Mestizo, he is most passionate about Mayan, Olmec, Zapotec, Mextec and Totnac cultures and has been guiding for over 15 years. Whether working with international diplomats, television production crews, seasoned travellers or accompanying families with children, his professional experience, love of the region and academic background allow him to tailor his tours skillfully and joyfully to suit all needs and interests.

Juan Carlos Gamino

guide

private guided tour Mexico

Based in Mexico's bustling capital, Juan Carlos has been guiding c+l clients throughout the country for more than ten years and is now our top guide in Mexico City. His varied interests and enthusiasm lead him to study engineering in the US and to work as a Red Cross emergency medical technician in the 1990s. Through the years, his passion for celebrating Mexico's many wonders has grown and as one of our guides he focuses his efforts on going that extra mile to show the real Mexico in all of its facets rather than sticking to the tourist route. Since starting with us, Juan Carlos has excelled not just via a thorough understanding of local archaeological and cultural sites, but also in his intuition for operating safely and efficiently in one of the world's great and culturally rich cities. as well as showing his deep understanding of local archaeological and cultural sites.

Reviews

At c+l, we have no vested interest in the hotels and lodges that we select - we review everything and choose the best for a particular client. And because we visit our three regions on a regular basis and have detailed conversations with over 90% of our clients on their return, our choices can be refined continually. The choice of what is best for the client is our only consideration.
