1.  Who do I talk to at cazenove+loyd – can you send me a brochure?

Once we have identified which of our three regions of the world you want to visit (which may be only after we have talked to you about when you want to travel, what has prompted you to plan a trip or what kind of experience you are looking for) we will put you through to the person who has the greatest expertise in the kind of holiday you are looking for.

So, don’t be surprised that we will start the process by asking you about what you like, what you dream of (and what really turns you off) before we start making suggestions.

From experience we find that it’s hugely important for our destination experts to talk at length with each client, preferably directly and not through a PA or intermediary.

We call our travel consultants 'destination experts' because they know their regions from recent, personal experience and focus 100% on organising travel to their particular region of expertise.

Can you send me a brochure?


Certainly. Our brochure explains how we work and where we work - but it's not a listing of properties or a catalogue of itineraries. The fact that we start designing every trip from a 'blank page' means that a 'traditional' brochure is inappropriate.

There really is no better way to get things right than to have a one-to-one conversation. The time spent doing that will save many hours further down the line.

So what do you send me?

We have a unique, proprietary software programme, which – after our discussion with you - enables us to construct an itinerary of written descriptions, images and maps, all built around you and your specific needs, interests and dates.

This itinerary can then be sent to you as a PDF to review at leisure and to send to friends/family to discuss. We can also print the itinerary and mail it to you, so you have a bound hard copy to look at.

2.  Can't you just send me a list of options – why do you want to talk to me in person?

We know a great deal about the regions we work in but (with a new client) we know nothing about you. Our job is to understand your dreams, taste and style (as well as your no-nos) and match those to the myriad experiences and places that we know about.

One person's heaven is another person's hell and it is our job to deliver what you want.

3.  Which airlines do you work with?

We have discounted contract fares with most airlines which run International routes from the UK to our destinations. If travelling to a destination from a country other than the UK, our Clients usually book these flights themselves.

Once in a destination, it is important that we manage all of the arrangements (as far as possible) – internal flights, accommodation, transfers, guiding and excursions – so that we can ensure a seamless holiday.

4.  How much does a cazenove + loyd holiday cost?

Every holiday is individually designed for the number of people and dates requested, as well as for each client’s taste and style, so it’s difficult to put a figure on it.

We work with the highest quality properties in each area – which, in some cases, may mean the 'authentic' rather than the obviously luxurious – and we do not always opt for the obvious. So it’s a matter of working out what’s right for each client, based upon their tastes and the experience they want.

In some cases the logistics involved in working in a remote destination make a wilderness adventure more expensive than a 5-star hotel. So there’s no hard and fast rule.

For these reasons, it’s always helpful if you give us an idea of your budget, for us to plan around.

Can't you give me a ballpark figure?

With Economy flights ex-London the average 10-day holiday which we organise in Central+South America costs about £3500 per person, in Africa+Indian Ocean about £4000 per person and in South+South East Asia about £3000 per person.

If, like many of our clients, you fly Business Class on the international flights, this adds significantly to the cost – even given the very advantageous fares available to us on the routes which we specialise in.

So how does cazenove+loyd make its money?

In short, we are important suppliers to airlines, hotels/lodges and other companies and individuals on the ground. We negotiate a trade discount on every element of a holiday and sell them to you 'packaged', at published prices, as a complete holiday. So you pay the full price and we buy at a discount and make our money on the difference between the two.

This means that you get a holiday which actually works at pretty much the same price as it would have been if you were able to book it yourself. Most importantly you have the re-assurance of travelling with people who really know how to get the most out of every day and how to spend the money to make it happen as smoothly as possible.

5.  Why do you work in only three regions?

We passionately believe that it’s important to specialise. And we are passionately involved on a day to day basis with people on the ground in Africa+Indian Ocean, Central+South America and South+South East Asia.

Being a generalist or worldwide tour operator would dilute our expertise and diminish our unique offer, which we are very proud of. Geographic focus enables us to research and travel extensively and build up those on-the-ground relationships that really matter.

Why these three?

Firstly because they are diverse and truly extraordinary – regions that our three sets of destination experts are passionate about.

Secondly because, without our knowledge and experience, they are regions where it would be impossible for an individual to plan and execute the type of trip that we can. It would take hours of research with no guarantee of success - and would probably cost substantially more in the end for a very unsatisfactory result.

What if I want to go somewhere other than Central+South America, Africa+Indian Ocean or South+South East Asia?

We usually know like-minded specialist tour operators who work in other parts of the world. So please ask and we can give you an objective opinion.

6.  What if your initial suggestion is not right?

Because everything is individually designed, we are only as good as the information you give us. We try to get an itinerary right first time – but sometimes we have to make assumptions. So please tell us if you would like any changes and we can discuss it with you and make the relevant adjustments, based upon your needs and our knowledge.

7.  What happens when I give you the go-ahead? 

We will confirm all of the elements in the itinerary and will send you an invoice for a 20% non-refundable deposit.

We will also send you a booking form and it’s important for you to put travel insurance in place at this stage. (Our booking form, with full terms and conditions, can be downloaded from the Contact page of this website.)

On receipt of your deposit payment we will send you some background information to help you prepare for the holiday. This will include outline medical advice, visa advice, packing advice, reading lists etcetera.

Eight weeks prior to travel we will send you a balance invoice. On receipt of full payment we will issue tickets and hotel vouchers and will send you these together with a final itinerary, which includes more detailed travel notes and contact numbers.

8.  When I get to the destination, am I on my own?

In all of our destinations we have a network of people on the ground, who are there to ensure that every step runs smoothly – and to sort out the unforeseen as and when it occurs. What’s more, we keep an eye on clients’ movements from our London office, throughout their trip, so that we can respond quickly whenever there’s a need. Working in the areas we do, there is always a need to be proactive and flexible behind the scenes and this is all part of the service.

9.  How do I know what sort of holiday you can organise?

In different parts of this web-site we will often display different itinerary suggestions. These are just samples, put there to give you initial ideas. They are meant as a starting-point rather than a fait accompli. For someone with more specific interests, these are never going to be completely right.

If one of these 'suggested itineraries' does appeal 100 percent, fantastic – but we will still want to talk with you to make sure that it really does deliver what you’re looking for, in every detail.

Can I join a Group?

We specialise in organising private, tailor-made holidays for individuals, friends or family. Whether there’s one of you or 40 of you, we will plan around that number and use accommodation and transport appropriate to your private party.

From time to time you may join with other travellers for part of your trip (eg if there is a train journey or a trek, horse-ride, expedition cruise or canoe safari which operates in this way) but for the most part it’s just you and your party.

As a rule we don’t organise 'set departures' but occasionally we may do something very specialised, which is practical only if we organise it for a minimum number of clients to join as a mixed group (for instance chartering an Antarctic ice-breaker).

10.  Is my holiday protected?

The air holidays and flights shown are ATOL Protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is ATOL 3208. ATOL Protection extends primarily to customers who book and pay in the United Kingdom. Click on the ATOL logo if you want to know more.
