Central + South America Las Clementinas Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo or San Felipe all refer to the same place, the old walled city, made up of 16th and 17th Century Spanish Colonial Architecture. Las Clementinas is a hidden gem in the heart of the old city, perfect for those looking to experience Panama City at a slower pace. The hotel is made up of six suites which can sleep up to four people, all presidential in size, layout and comfortably furnished. They are all beautifully decorated with high ceilings, rich hardwoods, old maps of the city and sporadic splashes of colour. Of course they could have easily squeezed more rooms in but we are glad they didn’t, that would have detracted from the sprawling, home away from home style that Las Clementinas has created. HIGHLIGHTS Las Clementinas is pitched in the heart of the old city; just a stone’s throw away from the Cathedral, Independence Square and the history museum The secret walled garden is an incredibly romantic setting for an evening drink We love the rooftop here, which has unparalleled views of the old and new city experience panama city at a slower pace The walls are steeped in history, character and charm which will provide our clients with a wonderful base to explore the leafy plazas and crumbling historic buildings with our experienced local guides. The Old City was put on the map in 1997 when it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and tourism sprung up as a result. A walk around this part of the city is reminiscent of that in Havana or Colombia’s Cartagena and it couldn’t feel further removed from Panama City’s skyscrapers across the bay. The café and bar here doubles as a restaurant, hosting a variety of guests and a few in-the-know locals. The hotel has many hidden gems and the secret walled garden has to be the best. It has developed next to the old city’s 18th Century towering city walls and under 80 year old palm trees. The setting couldn’t be more beautiful and the best part about it is you can’t see it unless you are inside the hotel. The rooftop is another gem that this hotel can boast about, with fantastic panoramic views of the city, a refreshing breeze and bar service it is the perfect place to see the sunset. Admittedly there are a few flights of stairs to reach the top, but we think it is totally worth it.
