South + South East Asia

Diverse Cultures, Beautiful Landscapes, Lively Local Markets, Local Private Guiding

One of Asia’s most culturally diverse and fascinating countries, Laos is home to over one hundred tribal and ethnic groups and is a land of ancient wats and a traditional way of life. Here emerald rice paddies plummet into the waters of the Mekong and monks in saffron robes walk the colonial streets of Luang Prabang. Relatively unspoiled by the modern world, it's easy to see why travellers are charmed by Laos and we use our specialist knowledge here to help you gain an insight into a way of life fast disappearing in Asia.

Visitors to Laos are enchanted not only by its beautiful landscapes but by the warm and relaxed attitude of the locals and our guides here can take you off the beaten track to little known villages and lively local markets. Cruise down the Mekong to Luang Prabang and let our guides show you the closer side of this remarkable town. Visit the best preserved temples in Asia and learn about buddhist ceremonies first hand, enjoy a hosted private lunch in a local home or learn about silk weaving with a local specialist. These are just a few ways in which we pass on our passion for Laos and help you see the best the country has to offer.

Best visited: November to April

All itineraries are individually designed but as a guide, we  can arrange ten days in Laos (not including flights) from £1700 per person.

luxury holiday to LAos

Located in Northern Laos next to the Mekong River, Luang Prabang is the most interesting town in the country. It is a small and friendly place to be, with spectacular architecture and beautiful surrounding lush green countryside and mountains. A great way to arrive into the town is by our private san pan boat along the Mekong from Northern Thailand and once in Luang Probang we always recommend staying between 3 to 5 nights – it is many visitors’ favourite place in South East Asia.

Although Jo had trodden these paths before, she felt as if she been parachuted into a strange land as explored her way around the map of Indochina. Joanna Smith

Textile Guide

private tour guide Laos

For our clients’ wishing to get a real insight in to Laos textiles, a visit to meet Joanna Smith at Ock Pop Tok is one of Luang Prabang's highlights and provides our clients with a unique, off the beaten track experience.
Joanna is a specialist in high quality Laotian textiles and gives our clients an unparalleled introduction into sericulture, silk weaving and the importance of traditional textiles in Lao society. Our clients relish the opportunity to visit Ock Pop Tok, which is a highly respected project and social enterprise, focusing on the field of textiles, handicrafts and design.

Here they can see first-hand how the initiative promotes women from the local community to work with the project to preserve traditional techniques, provide much needed income and to encourage social development. Our clients also love the chance to try their hand at silk dying and watch the worms in action.
We recommend spending at least half a day here and end an experience with tea served in the grounds overlooking the Mekong River, which many c+l guests say can’t fail to make a lasting impression.
