United Arab Emirates holidays

United Arab Emirates

Comsmopolitan cities, skyscraper hotels, superb diving, the place to be seen, metropolitan beaches

Glitz-in-the-sand… the world’s biggest construction site... a beach break in Dubai isn’t everyone’s idea of a holiday but we think this hive of go-go-go energy, sybaritic hotels and immaculately groomed beaches makes a great stopover en route to points further east. That said, your enjoyment will depend hugely on choosing the hotel that best matches your style, knowing where to shop and getting into the best restaurants – and for that you need our kind of insider knowledge.

It’s worth remembering that, despite grabbing all the headlines, Dubai is just one of the seven Emirates that make up the UAE and, beyond the metropolitan beaches there are silent deserts, stark mountains, green oases, crystalline sea with superb diving and a good helping of traditional Arabian values…so long as you know where to look.

Best visited: October to March

All itineraries are individually designed, but as a guide, we can arrange seven days in UAE (not including flights) from £2300 per person.

“Louise was extremely, extremely helpful – I would like everyone to know how great she was. I really developed a trust in her to understand my needs”

crown jewels

For over 20 years we have been creating the best luxury tailor-made holidays, we know our countries inside and out and really know how to get under the skin of each one and the best way to experience them.

Desert adventure in style

A desert safari is always a popular choice for those staying in Dubai, either as a day trip or overnight. The mystery and romance of the desert conjures up images of the golden sands of Lawrence of Arabia, 1001 nights. A lot of the outfitters that operate in the desert have become very commercial, however we can offer an experience that brings back romance and authenticity into the dunes.

best luxury hotels in Dubai

Over the top luxury, fine dining and extreme shopping. With cosmopolitan cities, skyscrapers and metropolitan beaches Dubai is glitz on the sand. We suggest getting away from the city and experiencing a desert safari as a day or overnight trip where you can explore the dunes in style with an expert off road driver, the more adventurous can experience dune bashing and sand boarding, finishing the day off with an Arabian feast under the stars. The best way to see Dubai is from the air with a helicopter tour you can see the palm and the world from above. With plenty of activities to keep you amused Dubai is the perfect family destination with world class shopping malls, the best golf courses exhilarating desert excursions and endless water sports.

Dubai from up high

The tallest building in the world

After five days in the buzzing metropolis of Dubai, Alex Townsend our destination expert, is in awe of Dubai and all that it has to offer. The highlight of her trip was a private helicopter ride which soared above 'The Palm' and 'The World', circling the Burj Khalifa then down to the historic Dubai creek. The jaw dropping views were exquisite.

Our relationships count for a lot and we still work with some of the same people we have worked with for twenty years. There is also constant change and the teams are always reviewing and adding to the experiences which they can offer and the lodges, hotels and guides they work with.

personal guide Dubai

Najib is by far the best person to take you around the Souks in Deira. Generally they are very crowded and loud which can be a little intimidating, this is why we always suggest going with Najib who will make you feel part of the local scene. His father used to run a meat stall in the Covered Souk so he knows the place like the back of his hand. He also knows the places to get the best prices for each product, be it gold or spices.

desert guide Dubai

With the right guide, the apparently empty desert of Dubai suddenly comes alive with hundreds of different  species of plants and animals. In our experience not many have this skill, but one guide - Yaser - who we met a few years ago, immediately impressed us. Ever since, all of our clients who have been on day trips with him have come back with rave reviews.

At c+l, we have no vested interest in the hotels and lodges which we select - we review everything and choose the best for a particular client. And because we visit our three regions on a regular basis and have details conversations with over 90% of our clients on their return, our choices can be refined continually. The choice of what is best for the client is our only consideration.

banyan tree al wadi

luxury desert camping experience Dubai

We like to recommend heading out here after a stint in Dubai’s city centre. Not only is it great to see another side to The Emirates, but it also offers the chance to unwind after what can be a very intense city experience. Out in the desert Banyan Tree Al Wadi is quiet and peaceful, with views over rolling sand dunes. It also works well as a combination with Zighy Bay in Oman, especially for families because our favourite desert camp, The Al Maha, sadly does not take children under ten years old.

the desert palm

luxury desert hotel United Arab Emirates

This hotel is perfect for second time visitors to Dubai, attracting a young crowd looking for an action-packed city break in an exclusive boutique retreat. Desert Palm is a modern and unique resort surrounded by 4 polo pitches, so you can cheer on each chukka from your hotel bedroom window. For a hotel in the desert, there is a lot greenery surrounding Desert Palm which makes it a refreshing contrast from the barren desert inland and skyscrapers in downtown.

one and only the palm

best hotel in Dubai

Similar to it’s sister hotel, The One & Only Royal Mirage, it has a more understated design than some of its rivals on the archipelago. It is one of the few boutique, low-rise hotels in Dubai, with beautiful manicured gardens leading down to a pristine beach, right on the end of one of the frongs of the Palm. In fact the beach is so well manicured that it has the softest sand in the whole of Dubai. The service is unfaultable and it is a sophisticated vibe, attracting a mainly adults-only crowd.

the atlantis

aquarium hotel room dubai

The Atlantis is an extraordinary hotel, and a true monument to Dubai. The iconic hotel has one of the best spots on the man-made archipelago of The Palm.  Whilst in our opinion it is totally over-the-top in terms of style, its flamboyancy is quintessentially Dubai. We often recommend it to families travelling with young children as the entertainment possibilities are endless, not least the in-house waterpark with a slide shooting you through an aquarium of shark infested waters.
