rural gems, vivid colours, off the beaten track adventures, quintessentially indian experience

Vivid colours, swirling crowds, majestic forts and palaces, teeming medieval cities, the heat and dust of the desert and the dreamily romantic lakes – Rajasthan delivers the quintessentially Indian experience. For this to be truly magical, however, it must be handled with care. While most visitors tend to race from one city to another, packing in as much as they can, we believe in a different approach. Although the major sights are wonderful – and an important part of your experience they are ‘well touristed’ and seeing too many of them can become more of an endurance test than a holiday.

We believe in taking Rajasthan at a more leisurely pace, combining the cities with some rural gems that we have discovered and enabling you to get under the skin of this incredible State.

At these little rural places there are no grand sights but that is the point; here you will see a Rajasthan that is off the beaten track, its way of life little-changed over the centuries. We try to show off each of these places with special experiences that are unique to cazenove+loyd, and the insight of some exceptional private guides.

Nevertheless, although we believe that properties with character and authentic charm are essential to a genuinely Indian experience, we are not averse to a good dose of luxury – and we combine Rajasthan’s new breed of world-class hotels with just the right mix of more authentic places.

Best visited: October to April. August and September ok but it will be very warm and possibly have rain showers but spectacular landscape after any rain.

All itineraries are individually designed, but as a guide, we can arrange ten days in Rajasthan (not including flights) from £2600 per person

“We are overwhelmed by the whole trip. Lots of our friends want to return to India with you. I am afraid you will have us as clients as well!”

luxury holiday to rajasthan

Rajasthan is the perfect introduction to India, it is an incredible yet sometimes overwhelming region so we suggest taking it at a leisurely pace combining cities with some rural gems to understand how the majority of people live on a subsistence farming life. There are so many palaces and forts to see, with your guide will work out which cities are best for you to prioritise during your visit. Spending an afternoon riding across rural Rajasthan is a great way to get a real feel for the local life and meet villagers, however if riding is not for you we can organise an afternoon hot-air ballooning to see the mesmerising landscapes below. Rajasthan does deliver a quintessentially Indian experience that takes in all the sounds, smells, colorful textiles and beautiful landscapes.

luxury hotel in Rajasthan

Amanbagh is a destination unto itself and one of our favourite hotels in the region. We think Amanbagh works very well in a Rajasthan itinerary as a place for our clients to relax and unwind as it has the most magnificent pool and spa which are luxurious beyond comparison in the region. However, Amanbagh is much more than a rural retreat and the plethora of activities to do here and nearby sites to see that are rarely accessed by tourists, makes it an ideal place to experience the colourful traditions and culture of timeless, rural India.
