The Maldives

PRistine Beaches, Over Water Villas, Luxury Spas, Coral Reefs Teeming with Sea Life, Private Islands

A spectacular double strand of 26 atolls, containing 1200 islands, scattered across 90,000 sq km of the Indian Ocean The Maldives epitomise the escapist idyll: powdery white beaches, turquoise water and coral reefs teeming with sea life. Every resort is on its own private island, which means that you’re not really going to a country at all, but straight to your island hideaway. And there’s the rub: The Maldives has an increasingly wide range of world-class resorts, each with its own style and character – which makes insider knowledge essential. Because your resort is your destination, getting it wrong can only mean trouble in paradise.

We have spent a lot time seeing and staying at all of the different properties in the Maldives, understanding what makes them tick and what their pluses and minuses are. This enables us to match the right island or combination of islands to your style, taste and the particular experience that you’re looking for. The Maldives is ideal for a one week escape or as a sybaritic contrast to a journey in India or Sri Lanka.

Best visited: December to April. July to December are also popular times for families to travel but expect some rain.

All itineraries are individually designed, but as a guide, we can arrange ten days in the Maldives (not including flights) from £2800 per person.

“All in all I would not have changed anything. For a honeymoon it was perfect … It was such an amazing trip”

Our relationships count for a lot and we still work with some of the same people we have worked with for twenty years. There is also constant change and the teams are always reviewing and adding to the experiences which they can offer and the lodges, hotels and guides they work with.

Guy Stevens

Marine Biologist

luxury diving in the maldives

Guy Stevens, is a Senior Marine Biologist in The Maldives, and is one of the world’s leading manta ray experts.
It was in The Maldives that Guy had his first underwater encounter with manta rays. He was enthralled by these amazingly graceful and inquisitive rays and from that moment he was driven by a desire to learn as much about them as possible.
In 2005 Guy founded the Maldivian Manta Ray Project, to help conserve this country’s manta population through active research and education. With Guy at the helm, the Marine Discovery Centre at the Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru works to enrich our clients’ experience through education, research and conservation of the marine environment.
Between May and October, you can become a manta researcher for the day, or sign up for ‘Manta on Call’: a thrilling speedboat ride allowing guests to swim with mantas spotted at nearby hotspots under Guy’s careful guidance. All of our clients have said this experience has left a lasting impression and a greater understanding of Maldivian marine life and the environmental challenges.

At c+l, we have no vested interest in the hotels and lodges which we select - we review everything and choose the best for a particular client. And because we visit our three regions on a regular basis and have detailed conversations with over 90% of our clients on their return, our choices can be refined continually. The choice of what is best for the client is our only consideration

gili lankanfushi

over-water villas The Maldives

Gili Lankanfushi excels in supreme style, comfort and service. It was the first all water based property in The Maldives and the over-water villas are still the best that we know of anywhere. We suggest one of the palatial floating villas for the ultimate privacy, reached only by boat, alternatively walk out to the villas which are on stilts. The main island is small which adds an intimate feel and there is a gloriously white sand beach for those missing the solid ground underfoot.
