BREATH-TAKING SCENERY AND A FUSION OF CULTURES

South + South East Asia

Nepal

breath-taking scenery, national parks, cultural sightseeing, trekkinG in the himalayas

This tiny Himalayan kingdom packs a huge punch, both culturally and geographically. A fusion of both Hinduism and Buddhism, it’s teeming with palaces, temples and mediaeval towns; one of the most beautiful lands in Asia, it’s home to eight of the world’s ten highest mountains. Its rivers and mountains offer some of the world’s best trekking and rafting, its national parks shelter the one horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal Tiger and its people exude life, colour and warmth.

Nevertheless, a Maoist rebellion has seen Nepal in the headlines for all of the wrong headlines in recent years and (although the conflict was never directed at tourists) it has brought tourism to a virtual standstill at some points. Now, with the situation looking much more promising, visitors are slowly returning - and we feel very optimistic that your trip will not be disrupted (although we’d like to see a more sustained
period of stability before saying that we’re 100 percent confident)

Meanwhile, some of the famous trekking routes are virtually deserted, so we urge you to visit before the country gets busy again.

Best visited: October to May

All itineraries are individually designed, but as a guide, we can arrange ten days in Nepal (not including flights) from £1900 per person.

Guides

Our relationships count for a lot and we still work with some of the same people we have worked with for twenty years. There is also constant change and the teams are always reviewing and adding to the experiences which they can offer and the lodges, hotels and guides they work with.

Mani Rai

trekking guide

private trekking guide nepal

We feel that a good guide really is the key to a fantastic holiday especially when trekking, because in-depth knowledge of the walking trails and local tribes is vital for a rewarding and interesting few days in the mountains.
Mani has been a guide for the past 21 years, 19 of which have been spent in the Annapurna Mountains. Born and bred in Nepal, his enthusiasm for the region shines through. Not only does he know the off the beaten track routes but he also has an interest in Nepal’s flora and fauna. Mani’s knowledge of village life and his family ties to the local area will ensure that our clients can also learn about the cultural significance of the places they pass during their trek. Working together with locally recruited porters, Mani plans treks depending on each client’s fitness level and interests, to ensure a safe, yet exciting and involving adventure. it is not just a trek but an education to discover the mountains with a guide of Mani's experience and 'cultural connectivity'.

ram din mahaton

naturalist

guided tour Nepal

Ram Din followed a childhood dream and his father’s footsteps to become a naturalist at Tiger Tops, where he has now been for 22 years.  He works brilliantly for our clients due to his enthusiasm, world class knowledge of Nepal’s wildlife and his particular passion for all things flora and fauna. In an effort to gain ever closer access to the jungle plants, he likes to spend as much time as possible on foot in the jungle.
Whether exploring Chitwan on foot, by boat or on elephant back Ram Din’s well-trained eye can spot even the most camouflaged of animals in the jungle. With his help you can always track tiger prints, spot the prehistoric Asian rhino or learn about the huge number of bird species in the local area.
He may have been a naturalist for most of his life but he is still constantly learning and gathering information from books, guests and other staff to ensure he remains one of the top naturalists in the country. He is also interested in herbal medicine, which stemmed from his father and in turn from his father. He is now keeping up the family tradition and teaching his grandson all he knows.
