Asia + The Middle East

A cultural explosion, Cambodia allows you to get under the skin of the asian culture

Cambodia's magnificent past and recent history make it a culturally fascinating country to visit. Life in this former French colony is dominated by the Mekong River and the Tonle Sap (Great Lake) and the impressive temples at Angkor are truly awe inspiring. From the ancient rice paddies of the South to the charming colonial streets of bustling Phnom Penh, Cambodia shares a rich and vibrant culture, making it one of the most enigmatic and beautiful countries to visit in Asia.

Your Cambodia holiday will almost certainly take you to Angkor. The artistic, architectural and cultural legacy of the Khmer Empire (9th-13th Centuries) which dominated much of South East Asia is epitomised in the ruins of the Angkor area. This truly vast archaeological site enables one to trace each stage of the fascinating history of the Khmer peoples.

Our specialists on the ground guide you expertly though the ruins, pointing out historic and cultural details and are able to organise visits to lesser known ruins hidden further into the jungle.

Elsewhere, we can help you get under the skin of Cambodia. Explore the streets of Phnom Penh on one of our architectural tours, or see the colourful markets in action. We can arrange a picnic on a deserted island or lunch overlooking the exquisite views on Bokor Mountain, a deserted hill station relic of Cambodia's 60's heyday. Cruise the waterways of the Tonle Sap, the main artery of life in Cambodia, or follow the Mekong River as it weaves its way to Vietnam.

Best visited: November to March

All itineraries are individually designed, but as a guide, we can arrange a ten day Cambodia holiday (not including flights) from £2500 per person.

Our relationships count for a lot and we still work with some of the same people we have worked with for twenty years. There is also constant change and the teams are always reviewing and adding to the experiences which they can offer and the lodges, hotels and guides they work with.

guided tour of Angkor Wat

Cambodia and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor are both rich with opportunities for creative photography. If you are a budding photographer or even a total beginner who is keen to learn more and capture some stunning photographs of your time in Siem Reap then we highly recommend spending the day with fine art photographer John McDermott.

John first visited Angkor in 1995 to witness a total eclipse of the sun. He was inspired by the surreal, otherworldly light of the eclipse and returned again and again to create a definitive artistic portrait of the ancient Khmer temples.
He began his career in the U.S and worked in editorial and commercial studio photography for several years before accepting a job for a magazine in Bangkok in 1993 which led him to Asia.

We can arrange for him to accompany you whilst you explore the fascinating temples to offer his expert photography tuition tailored to your needs, level of expertise and artistic interests. Alternatively, for those wishing to appear in front of the lens, John can explore the sites with our clients to capture them on their journey of discovery.

With three galleries showing his work in Siem Reap and work on display in the permanent collection at the National Museum in the capital Phnom Penh, John focuses on the wonders of Angkor, with striking sepia-tones.

An experienced, knowledgeable and above all passionate guide really makes the difference between an interesting experience and unforgettable one. The guides we work with in Siem Reap are more than just a guide – they act as a local friend and cultural ambassador for our clients.

Stéphane is always our first choice for our more adventurous clients who really want to get off the beaten track whilst in Siem Reap. As an environmental engineer and entomologist, Stéphane partakes in jungle research expeditions in Cambodia in search for new species.  Accompanied by Stéphane our clients can hike quiet country back roads or through jungle terrain to gain a wealth of insight into rural and natural life far from the crowds.

Stéphane also works as a Mine action expert for organizations such as Handicap International, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, the Cluster Munition Coalition and AOAV. We can arrange for our clients to meet with Stéphane at the Landmine Museum or War Museum in Siem Reap which adds a unique and in-depth dimension onto the issue of landmines in Cambodia today.
