"Most of our clients actually LIKE their children"

As a company, we cut our teeth on the family safari. For many it is still the most memorable and exciting holiday of their childhood.

Both as a mother and a travel professional, Henrietta Loyd understands better than most what works for different ages: ‘Most of our clients actually LIKE their children and it is very special to discover new places and experiences as a family. It is also great fun for us at c+l to make a once in a lifetime holiday happen for a family. We enjoy their delight and surprise vicariously.’

It's a memorable Christmas Eve to see Santa riding across the Thar desert on a camel when you thought he had forgotten about you.

An amazing experience for a nature mad teenager to get involved hands-on with a cheetah conservation programme.

Or in the run-up to Art A Level, to spend the afternoon in a block printing workshop in Jaipur.

A riding safari in Kenya through the eyes of Katie Boden (Age 13)

Christmas in Sri Lanka- Marina McWhirter (Age 14)

The Tapajos tributary in Brazil was described by the French explorer, Jacques Cousteau as the ‘Caribbean of the Amazon’ because of its rare blue waters and extraordinary white, sandy beaches.

From your private river boat and with your own guide and crew you’ll discover hidden beaches and tributaries leading into the jungle with an exciting Geography lesson each day.

This region offers a wonderfully remote experience without sacrificing on comfort. Over three or four nights of sailing, you’ll find the three types of rivers present in the Amazon basin: black waters, yellow waters and beautiful blue waters, each with its own ecosystem.

Best visited between August and March when the water levels are low enough for you to sunbathe on the beach when you’re not swimming with river dolphins or trekking into the rainforest.

From the moment you are woken up by a Samburu askari, the day starts as it means to go on.

Children will spend the day walking through the bush with a Samburu warrior as their guide and teacher.

They will learn to read the bush telegraph, to cook lunch over a camp-fire and help herd cattle into a thorny kraal before dusk falls.

The Samburu will also typically treat you to a performance of their amazing jumping dance where the warriors leap several feet into the air in an effort to impress.

Some parents like to accompany younger children on a day like this but teenagers really relish the freedom it gives to take off on their own adventure. This also allows parents to have some time to themselves.

The spectacular deserts and incredible coast of Oman make it one of our most impressive destinations.

There is plenty to keep a family of all ages occupied, from camping in the desert at Wahiba Sands, to exploring the coastline near Muscat in a private Dhow.

For some real adventure we can arrange a luxury mobile tented safari, taking you right off the beaten track and away from any other tourists. Wahiba Sands is a brilliant place to learn some desert skills whether it is getting to grips with the Bedouin culture, or driving on soft sand.

Picking up army survival techniques is also an option: provided with a basic set of kit - matches, stove, tarpaulin, poles, etc. - you are challenged to create your own bivouac and to cook your meal.

Celebrate by spending the night in your tent or retire, defeated, to the luxury of five star camping.

There is a different and exciting way to see the stunning Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru by via ferrata.

A via ferrata is a path used to climb a mountain with a safety system permanently installed. The idea originated in the Italian Dolomites for the movement of troops during World War I. It gives people without any experience in climbing the chance to explore the mountainside safely.

After climbing 300 metres using iron ladders, you can take in the breathtaking views and immerse yourself in the historical landscape. You will then descend a 100-metre cliff fixed to a rope and a fully-qualified guide. This is fun for all the family and great for children and teenagers as it makes this area exciting, not just for those interested in the Inca heritage.

South Africa is a great destination for families due to its variety, quality and value. Great for the first time safari, and an insight into culture and heritage with battlefields and vineyards. There really is something for everyone.

The elephant sanctuary outside Plettenberg Bay is currently home to six African elephants. We can organise a private encounter for you and your family ensuring maximum elephant interaction while you accompany the elephants on their daily routine.

A completely different experience altogether is to gain an insight into the Cape townships. Discovering these extraordinary settlements gives an insight into daily life which can be eye opening, inspirational and educational. With one of our excellent guides and a traditional lunch it is a day not to be missed.

Riding through traffic-free back streets, we have designed a cycling route which gives an insight into everyday life in Bangkok.

Away from the concrete skyscrapers and shopping malls this truly gives a family a glimpse into how the Thais really live in this vibrant and exciting capital.

Your route explores local neighbourhoods, through some of Bangkok’s lesser visited areas and there will be plenty of stops along the way to keep all ages interested.

You will look in at local Buddhist temples to get a feel for the religious heart of the country.

Enroute sample some of the best Thai street food with the keen eye of  a local guide to help you.

If there is time, stop at an open-air kick boxing school and have a lesson with the locals.

Towards the end of your ride, see the greenest area of Bangkok, Bangkrachao.
