Something for all the family in Rajasthan
  Main story - small image

Main story - small image

"One of the areas which c+l dealt with so well was our rather exceptional spread of ages."

Everyone in a family has their own priorities from a holiday, especially one to an ‘exotic’ location like India. Getting it exactly right for every member is quite a challenge.

For Victoria Pilkington who runs Brora- the cashmere retailer- the colour of Rajasthan was exciting inspiration.

For photographer husband, Johnnie, the subjects were limitless. But for the girls aged 21,18,12,10 and 7 there also had to be something for everyone.

As Victoria freely admits: ‘I kept pestering to add a few other places into the plan. But Alex at c+l was polite but firm about what was appropriate and how long we should stay at each destination and was spot on.............although I could have stayed on in Jodhpur for a few weeks.'

Where+when to
                    go beyond
  latin   african   asian

Central + South America   Africa + Indian Ocean   South + South East Asia

Religious festivals are always full of colour and atmosphere. Holy Week across Central and South America is no exception.

Villages and towns throughout the continent join together at Easter. Latin America around this time is a very special experience if you are in the right place at the right time. And we have been keeping an eye on what we feel will give you the most exciting experience in 2011.

Next year the state of Chiapas in Mexico will be holding a week of local festivities in the heart of some of the most magnificent Mayan archaeological sites in Mexico.

Tzootzils, Tzeltal and Cakchiquels are all descendants of the Mayan culture and each has its own unique traditions.

Guatemala and the Mayan site of Tikal is across the border from Chiapas. Holy Week is also a very special time to be in Peru or Ecuador. We can plan an itinerary to take in the most interesting processions.

For anyone able to travel to Botswana between October 2010 and the end of June 2011, we have secured six nights for the price of four at some of the best lodges in Southern Africa based on two nights staying near Victoria Falls and four nights on safari in Botswana.

Botswana’s astonishing landscape comes into its own in May/June.  During this time the Okavango Delta floods, creating an oasis of extraordinary beauty for its wildlife.

At this time of year, vast herds of buffalo, zebra, plains game and elephant can be seen around flooded areas, luring hungry predators, with game-viewing by boat and by 4x4.

After an adventure in Botswana’s wilderness, it is a short flight to Livingstone to experience another of nature’s great dramas – the Victoria Falls.

The Falls are at their most dramatic in May/June after the rains, when plumes of spray billow like smoke from the ravine.

Located in the very northern tip of India, Ladakh is striking and remote.

This is a region of high desert and stunning peaks, where Tibetan Buddhism and a traditional Himalayan way of life make it akin to the Tibet of the past. Monasteries cling to ragged peaks and prayer flags stand guard over mountain passes, clear rivers and turquoise lakes.

cazenove+loyd have access to three restored village houses where guests can experience the very heart of this region in privacy and comfort.

Each house is fully staffed and chefs prepare delicious meals al fresco or in the traditional Ladakhi kitchens. You will have your own dedicated guide and driver to help you explore the best of the area.

There is also the possibility of some spectacular white-water rafting for those looking for a family holiday with a difference next summer. So you can combine action and culture in the same trip.

 'The Secret in Their Eyes'
Both a thriller and a love story, the film "The Secret in Their Eyes" was the surprise winner of this year's Oscars, yet it had already scooped thirteen academy awards in its native Argentina.

The New Yorker hailed it for “successfully combining the utmost in romanticism with the utmost in realism.” The film focuses on Argentina at the time of political distress, when democracy and justice were replaced by dictatorship and terror.

The film captures some well known and less well known scenes of Argentina, so why not take a look, sit back, relax and dream about when you would like to go or bring back those memories of your last trip to Argentina.

Opens in cinemas August 13.

 Floral paradise in South Africa

Retreat from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town to South Africa’s spectacular Cederberg Mountains, a World Heritage Site.

From late July until October the wide open plains of the Cape Floral Region burst into flower, with over 750 indigenous plant species carpeting the veld. With its backdrop of craggy rocks and sparkling waterfalls, the landscape cannot fail to inspire awe and tranquillity.

Head down the coast to the pretty fishing village of Hermanus between August and November where it is home to some of the world’s best Whale watching.

The Southern Right Whales appear each year to mate and breed in the shallow waters of Walker Bay, providing endless entertainment for visitors watching from the cliffs.

The Komodo Dragon mating season, Indonesia

Coinciding with Indonesia’s best weather, the mating season of the Komodo dragon runs from May to August and females lay eggs in September. Fascinating and prehistoric, the Komodo dragon is the largest member of the lizard family and was only discovered in 1912.

The Komodo Archipelago is home to the last of these endangered creatures. The scattering of remote islands is stunning with a stark natural beauty and with the pristine marine environment protected as a National Park, it can only be accessed by boat.

For divers looking for the ultimate experience this Summer, cazenove+loyd have access to some of the most luxurious and well equipped dive boats in the world. So you can explore Komodo in total privacy and safety. You can easily combine a diving trip with a stay on neighbouring Bali or Lombok.
