You can swim, snorkel or dive with these extraordinary creatures; the largest fish in the world and one of the most graceful. Despite being 'shoulder' season, it should still be about 30 degrees and the rain, if it comes, is usually a short and refreshing interlude in an otherwise beautiful day.

One of our favourite safari seasons in Botswana and Zambia is the green season. For the more seasoned traveller it sees the bush and the mammals at their most healthy. Less sightings than when the grass has died back and the game is concentrated around the water-holes but a much more beautiful habitat and a lot less dust.
May is often on the cusp of the seasons but this makes for interesting travel to many destinations if you choose carefully. Here are just three ideas but we always have many more up our sleeves:
