Almost the whole country is a paradise for birders, but Zambia's South Luangwa Valley takes prime position when, towards the end of the month, hordes of beautifully plumed carmine bee-eaters flock to nest in the banks of the river, swooping in and out of their nesting holes over the water. There are spectacularly comfortable lodges to stay in, or you can take off on a mobile walking safari, a Zambian speciality. Away from the noise of a vehcile, with our expert guides leading the way, you'll track game on a whole new level and see it in a whole new light.

August

Much of sub-Saharan Africa is at its best for game-viewing in their Winter. Zambia and Botswana are two of Southern Africa's true gems but East Africa is also a fabulous destination in August.

With much of Asia in the monsoon we have featured one area of India- Ladakh- where it is perfect to visit when lower lying India is to hot to handle....... do not forget Indonesia in August, pretty much perfect.

And the middle band of South America (Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and the North of Chile and Argentina) are at their best.
