It is also called the Festival of Colour and is celebrated with bonfires and the mass throwing of coloured powder. You are welcome to participate. It's a nationwide event, with each region staging its own particular variation, so you can combine it with an exploration of any part of this vast and endlessly fascinating country.
March
Slightly fresh at higher altitudes but with views all the better for it, think Himalayas: Uttaranchal in India, Bhutan and Nepal are all really spectacular at this time of year and with ever more comfortable accommodation it is great to come in from the great outdoors to a log fire or wood-burning stove.
Mexico can be getting slightly warm in the lower reaches but the higher colonial cities North of Mexico City are a great climate and, particularly in the run-up to Easter take on a magical festival feeling.

cambodia
a real eye opener
Magnificent ruins. Historic cities and ancient rice fields on a deserted coastline. The lost ruins of Angkor are a draw all year round but March offers a chance to explore more of this delightful country away from the crowds. Combines well with Laos at this time of year.

peru
fresh and vibrant
Festivals, green valleys, rich culture and fine cuisine. Around Holy Week, Southern Peru bursts into life after the rainy season. Less crowded than in the Summer vacations, you can have some of the lesser known Inca sights to yourself. One of the best months to combine with the Galapagos.

is never a right time to visit Sri Lanka. But never a wrong time either.
And, if you avoid Christmas/New Year, it is probably the best value
destination in the world.
