Despite being 'shoulder' season, it should still be about 30 degrees and the rain, if it comes, is usually a short and refreshing interlude in an otherwise beautiful day.

One of our favourite safari seasons in Botswana and Zambia is the green season. For the more seasoned traveller it sees the bush and the mammals at their most healthy. Less sightings than when the grass has died back and the game is concentrated around the water-holes but a much more beautiful habitat and a lot less dust.
May is often on the cusp of the seasons but this makes for interesting travel to many destinations if you choose carefully. Here are just three ideas but we always have many more up our sleeves:

Officially the low season, so great value but one of the best months to visit. Legendary hospitality and cuisine and some of the best beach hotels in the world. For those who like service and great golf, tennis and watersports it is a fabulous destination.
argentina
experience the north
The best season to visit the North of the country. Most visitors travel to Argentina in their Summer to access the Lake District and Patagonia. For the more intrepid, the states of Corrientes and Salta offer spectacular scenery and some very involving experiences.

A short flight from South Africa but with a coast completely different to the Cape. The warm Indian Ocean, fabulous diving and pure white sand beaches make it one of the most unsung beach destinations in the world. Best visited April to December.
