    Lunch at The Panama Canal

    A DAY TRIP WORTH TAKING

The Panama Canal is both an engineering marvel and one of the most significant waterways on the planet. When the canal officially opened on 15th August 1914 it shaved weeks off the journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific and this year the country is celebrating the centenary of its opening. Nowadays it sees around 14,000 vessels travel through it every year and because of its global significance people flock to see it. It is a magnificent feat of engineering and thus any trip to Panama would not be complete without a day trip here.

The easiest and best way to visit the Canal is to go to the Miraflores Locks, on the northeastern fringe of Panama City. One of our specialist and passionate guides will pick you up from your hotel in the city and transport you to discover the history behind the canal and the influence it has subsequently had on Panama. In our opinion the best and most relaxing way to see the canal is over lunch. A lovely restaurant has developed on the very edge of the canal where the giant cargo ships nudge their way through a comparatively small waterway.

We can arrange for the very best table on the restaurants balcony where you can enjoy drinks and a proper three course lunch. It is an experience like no other watching these ships manoeuvre their way through the canal with a queue of ships behind getting ready for their turn. After lunch you can explore the museum with your guide which is directly below the restaurant before returning to the city in time for a lovely spa treatment or to relax before dining in one of the cities lovely restaurants.
