We have been lucky enough to go to many incredible places throughout our years of travelling, however the Caribbean had never been one of them. So when the chance to visit the little known Turks+Caicos Islands came about, we jumped at the chance.

Glossy shots of deserted white beaches with sand as soft as icing sugar, calm clear waters, palm trees gently moving in the Caribbean breeze and laid back friendly locals sprang to mind.

The amount of different blues and greens on show blew our minds, beginning with the view from the plane as it flew on from Antigua to Providenciales. Each new place then brought another sensational seascape and our overriding memory of the trip is an immense sense of peace each time we were on the beach, in the water or floating on top of it.

One of the experiences we particularly enjoyed was stand-up paddle boarding off the beach at Amanyara. The calm waters here make it the perfect conditions for beginners. We took a snorkel and mask with us in case we spotted something in the glass-like water beneath. Sure enough, a small dark shape not far from the shallows soon caught our attention and we quickly had our faces in the water whilst balancing on our paddle boards. We then spent a peaceful and unforgettable half an hour following what turned out to be a beautiful sting ray searching for food on the sea bed.
