We Believe Travel is Precious

The world has transformed dramatically since cazenove+loyd was founded in 1993. On every trip we take, we wonder how that destination will look in another 30 years. We are passionate about our destinations and understand that it has become more important than ever to conserve their wildlife, habitats and communities for future generations.

We may not have all the answers, but we do know that the way we think about travel must shift in recognition of our changing planet. Selecting who we work with and where is something we can control to ensure we create both extraordinary and sustainable adventures. We hope to make you feel part of something more significant and return home with the knowledge that you have made a positive impact – however great or small. We have never wanted you to explore in a cocoon, so we connect you with local people who open your eyes to the real soul of a region.

We have always encouraged you to travel slowly and spend longer everywhere you go – not only to reduce your footprint in ecologically sensitive areas but also to allow you to experience more from your trip. By taking the time to stop and engage with each place, you will form memories that will stay with you forever – from the eerie sound of the call to prayer at dawn in India or the sweet smell of rain in the Peruvian Amazon to the breathtaking sight of the dusk sky streaked crimson over Tanzanian plains.

    Carbon Balancing

Ensuring we are making a positive impact on the environment and the destinations in which we work has always been fundamental to us.

We already neutralise our company carbon footprint by calculating our trips – how we travelled, where we stayed and how we moved within a country – and taking part in CommuniTree, a tropical reforestation project in Nicaragua. We have connections with charitable enterprises in many of our destinations, such as AboutAsia Travel & Schools in Cambodia, All about the Light Foundation in Africa, the Alalay Foundation in Bolivia and the Scott Polar Research Institute, but CommuniTree has been specifically designed to carbon balance by recreating indigenous forest with the help of local people.

This award-winning, accredited and independently verified programme is certified under the world’s original carbon standard, Plan Vivo. Not only does it have an incredible effect on the ecosystem’s biodiversity and the climate, but also life-changing opportunities for communities, in particular small-scale farming families, who are educated on the benefits of conservation and provided with employment and sustainable income. So far, 5 million native trees have been planted over a total area of 31sq km.

We are well aware that many of our clients wish to balance their carbon footprint and make their journey more meaningful. Our experts will do this for you by calculating the impact of your itinerary and telling you how many trees we will be planting in your name. For anyone visiting Nicaragua, we can also arrange for you to visit one of the farms supported by the project, meet the farmers on the ground and plant your trees yourself.
