Stories from Vietnam
“We spent the following day with a local family going to the market, visiting the temple, talking with the local mayor and eating a typical TET (New Year’s) lunch prepared by the family. The family prepared a feast… We could have never arranged such a day on our own!”
"We loved Ho Chi Minh City - a truly fantastic city and you were absolutely right about the Park Hyatt - wonderful. Our guide was a complete delight and a real gem. He was a delightful, kind man who has experienced much of the hardship of the changing fortunes of Vietnam over the past 50 years. He doesn't play on this, but once you get to know him the stories start emerging. He was an excellent guide and a real pleasure (and honour) to be with. I couldn't recommend him enough - his tour of the Mekong is really something rather special.... Thank you for all your help in sorting the trip out - it was a great success and we had a wonderful and very exciting trip."
“Our guide suggested stopping to visit the village famous for making conical hats. Once in the village, after asking around, our guide took us to the local hat maker. This small family business welcomed us with a traditional cup of tea. This was a moment that we could never have hoped to find on our own…”
"Just to say that we had an excellent trip, everything went like clockwork. All the guides were excellent, polite, professional, knowledgeable and on time. Thanks for organizing."
“What we most appreciated was the in depth knowledge of Vietnam and Cambodia provided by cazenove+loyd, the excellence and professionalism of the guides and drivers and the experiences that were personal to us and our interests.”
"All the guides were brilliant, they gave us so much information. Not only what you would expect, but their own views on the current political and social situations in their country. We especially enjoyed the architectural tours and our day on the Mekong (Temples at Angkor Wat are a given!). The sobering visits to the Killing Fields, the tunnels and the museums were extremely informative and, particularly in Vietnam, ‘good’ to hear the Vietnamese side. As ever – our thanks to you for the organisation and support to me, particularly, in the planning!"
“cazenove+loyd – specifically Penny and her team put together a spectacular trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. It turned out to be beyond our expectations – they really listened to what we wanted to experience.”
That was one of the best holidays I have ever had! I am so grateful, we both are, for all that you did and organised for our first introduction to Vietnam and Cambodia. Your meticulous planning was faultless, there was always someone to meet us, always a car waiting and each day a new slant on life in both countries past and present.
Our guides were only too happy to pass on their stories to us, which brought everything to life. The calibre was outstanding (I really noticed this observing other guides in Angkor). They all spoke excellent English (shamed us with our faltering 'hello' and 'thank you') and were incredibly knowledgeable. Our favourite was, of course, the delightful Mr Linh. He was so kind and attentive to our every need and really went the extra mile to find fun things to do and places for us to eat in that we would never have found on our own. And, all the while, interspersing with his family’s heart wrenching story, his former life in the seminary and his life today in Hanoi.
