Stories from The Galapagos Islands
I wanted to follow-up from our fantastic trip to the Galápagos. All of the travel went incredibly smoothly and we truly had an incredible experience. We ended up on the MV Theory, which was Relais & Chateaux's newest ship... I think it was only about three months old. All of the guests were younger and relatively close to us in age, which made for some great dinners and conversation. I can't say enough about the quality of our guides and the hikes and snorkels we got to do over the course of trip... Truly incredible! Our time at Galapagos Safari Camp was also exceptional. The service went above and beyond our expectations, and every day was well organised with good activities. Also, my day of diving was fantastic... I got to play with sea lions and swim with full-grown hammerhead sharks. I wanted to thank you for all of your help. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience – except that we may go back in the future to do the southern route! :)
"Just as Machu Picchu has to be seen to be believed, so do the Galapagos. I would not have been at all surprised to see Adam and Eve emerge from behind a candelabra cactus and hear them talk about evolution by natural selection. It was probably they who planted signs by the cliffs and along the paths saying "stop." As often as not there was a blue-footed booby on its nest the other side of the sign or in the middle of the path, or a red-footed booby nesting in a tree below."
"An enormous thank you for the incredible trip that you organised for me to Ecuador. The entire trip was wonderful, from the pretty Hotel del Parque to the Theory to the gorgeous Zuleta, which I fell in love with. What a lovely place, and what gorgeous people. It's so rare to find places like that anymore, that still reek of history and family, so it was extremely special.”
"Caroline was enamoured at the sea lions and one of them was enamoured with her. The voyage of the Experience, nee Eclipse, took the southern route. It was well orchestrated. For me it was a bit like reliving the chapter in The Voyage of the Beagle, mixed only slightly with scenes of Russell Crowe in Master and Commander when we were in Elizabeth Bay bordering Isabella. We got on well with the rest of the 40 or so passengers, who mostly came from Canada, the UK, US and Australia, so English was the lingua franca. I admit to having taken advantage of the complimentary drinks."
"Had a great time – what an extraordinary place The Galapagos is. Lived up to all expectations and more."
"Just to say - we loved our stay on The Eclipse. I didn't know what to expect but the boat was so solid and comfortable and roomy. I expected the cabins to be tiny but in fact they were light and airy and very comfortable. There was always plenty of room in the reception rooms. The dinning room had windows down two of the walls and light flooded in. It was like staying in a comfortable house on the sea. I didn't feel sea sick once nor did any of us."
