Four Days in the Selous

At the airstrip we were greeted with iced tea and cold flannels from our hosts before being driven the short distance to our beautiful lodge, Azura Selous. Located on the banks of the Ruaha River, Azura Selous is in the most remote location and the chances of seeing another vehicle during your stay is extremely slim. Every suite is open-fronted allowing a real ‘sofa safari’ experience where you can watch hippos and crocodiles going about their daily business as you chill in your private plunge pool.

During the next couple of days we went on morning and afternoon game drives in search for wildlife. Nenga and Joseph were our guides and they were fantastic; knowledgeable, interesting and very amusing.

My favourite moment was when we found a group of eleven lions having their midday siestas. Seven beautiful lionesses and four rather restless six-month-old cubs.

One afternoon we went fishing we managed to catch a couple of tiger fish as well as some catfish, I must admit fishing certainly is not my sport but with my rod in one hand and a gin and tonic in the other, I was blissfully content.

On our last day Nenga took us out on a walking safari. After 2 hours of walking, out of absolutely nowhere, the Azura team suprised us with the most extravagant bush breakfast. It was the perfect ending to such a memorable 4 days in Selous.
