Insider access in Amman
Whilst staying in the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel Amman, a crown jewel in the heart of Jordan’s bustling capital city, enjoy a visit to the Royal Stables for a private Arabian Horse show performed by horses owned by the King. Drive from the Royal Stables in one of the King’s vintage cars for a private visit to the Royal Automobile Museum, set up in honour of the late King Hussein who was an avid car enthusiast and collector. This experience is exclusive to cazenove+loyd clients and the cars have been off the road since the King died.
Stay in the most luxurious tented camp in Wadi Rum – taken exclusively by cazenove+loyd
Two very special nights will be spent in one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in the world, Wadi Rum. You will enjoy a traditional Bedouin feast under the stars, before retiring to huge plush white tents, with double beds, running water and working electricity.
In the morning, there will be the thrill of waking up in the serenity and silence of the desert, surrounded by rolling sand dunes and huge sandstone mountains, before you have the entire day to explore this remarkable landscape. Quite simply staying in a luxurious camp deep in this natural wilderness is an extraordinary experience and a memory to last a lifetime.
Experience Petra before the crowds
Like other magnificent UNESCO world sites, it is crucial to explore Petra in a carefully planned way, so it can live up to even the highest expectations. Wake up early and walk through Petra’s Siq as the sun rises and the site comes alive. We have also organised for a very special viewing of Petra by night, where the lost city is lit up by over 1500 candles.
Travel throughout with Archaeologist, Dr Konstantine Politis

Day 1: 25th October
Arrive into Queen Alia Amman International Airport, where you will be met by your private driver. Journey to the luxurious Four Seasons Amman to relax after your flight before you begin your journey with us through this enchanting Kingdom.
Four Seasons Amman
Located between the prestigious Al Sweifiyah residential area and the Shmeisani financial district, the luxurious five-star Four Seasons Hotel Amman is a crown jewel in the heart of Jordan’s bustling capital city. With spacious, large rooms, modern facilities and unparalleled service, the Four Seasons sets a new standard of quality and excellence. The best hotel in Amman, it also offers a spa and swimming pool to unwind in after a day exploring Amman.
Jordan's Roman Past and The Decapolis Cities
After a delicious breakfast at the Four Seasons Amman, you will head north to visit some of the extraordinary Decapolis cities, which will be brought to life by incredible stories from your Dr Politis. You will visit Jerash, often referred to as the Pompeii of the East due to its unique state of preservation. The sheer age of the artefacts in this unique site can prove quite overwhelming. Later, you will head to the city of Umm Qais and walk straight on to what can be described as a biblical set – here was the site of Jesus’s miracle of the Gadarine Swine. This site was excavated by Dr Politis who will be able to offer an unrivalled insight into this surrounding area. Here you will also enjoy a mezze-style lunch overlooking the magnificent views of the Jordan River Valley and Yarmouk River. This afternoon you will return to Amman via the Jordan River Valley. We have left this evening free to enjoy dinner under your own arrangements, either at the Four Seasons or at one of our recommended local restaurants.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the Four Seasons Amman before setting off to explore the buzzing capital city of Amman. Spend the morning exploring the Old Museum, The Citadel and city at your own pace. We are thrilled to be able to visit the Royal Stables where you will enjoy an exclusive private Arabian Horse show all performed by horses owned by the King. After the show, the director of the stables will host a private drinks reception. Travel from the Royal Stables in one of the King’s very own vintage cars for an exclusive visit to the Royal Automobile Museum, set up in honour of the late King Hussein who was an avid car enthusiast and collector. The stunning fleet of cars will then return guests to the Four Seasons. This experience is exclusive to cazenove+loyd clients and these cars have not been on the road since King Hussein died. It is quite the thrill for Amman residents to see the magnificent cars on the city’s streets once again. We have arranged for dinner at a lively local restaurant in downtown Amman, as we want to introduce you to the laid-back vibrancy of the city. This is where locals celebrate big family occasions over long, relaxed and – of course -delicious suppers. It is easy to get swept up in the revelry and much encouraged.
Leave the hustle and bustle of Amman, and head South on the Desert Highway towards the incredible desert, Wadi Rum. You will stop en-route at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Umm Ar Rasas, home to one of the largest and most beautiful mosaics in Jordan. Enjoy an authentic lunch at a little-known but fantastic restaurant in Al Qatrana, a former stop on the pilgrim road between Damascus and Mecca. Al Qatrana is home to an impressive Ottoman period Hajj Fort and the Hejaz Railway Station which featured in the film, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’. We have carefully planned our arrival at Wadi Rum, one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in the world, to be at sunset. Marvel at the stunning technicolour sky as you journey by 4×4 with your Bedouin guide to your luxury canvas tent where you will have a very special Bedouin dinner, and spend the evening under the stars. This is barefoot luxury at its best. Where you will be staying for two nights.
Discovery Bedu Luxury Camp
Located in the south of Jordan, roughly 300km from Amman, Wadi Rum is one of the most spectacular natural environments in the Middle East. Its stunning panoramas are shaped by granite, basalt and sandstone mountains rising up to 800m from the desert floor. T.E Lawrence’s love of this area meant that it was the chosen location for the Oscar-winning film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’. Staying in an authentic yet luxurious camp deep in this natural wilderness is a truly extraordinary experience. Uniquely tailored to blend in with the surrounding desert, the camp offers an authentic Bedouin style experience without compromising on comfort.
Wake up to the serenity and silence of the desert before enjoying breakfast at the camp with undisturbed views. After breakfast, you will meet your Bedouin guide who will take you to explore Wadi Rum by 4×4. On your journey stop for a cup of traditional Arabica coffee at the home of a local Bedouin family to take part in the baking of fresh Arboud bread to be enjoyed together around the stove. After lunch, you will continue your journey through the desert to see some of the most dramatic rock formations of Wadi Rum, including a visit to Burdah Bridge, the Sand Dunes and Jabal Umm Frouth. Journey back across the desert by camel as the sun sets, riding through incredible scenery before spending your second night in the desert at your luxury camp.
Wadi Rum and Petra
We very much recommend rising early to enjoy a Hot Air Balloon flight before breakfast to take in the magical scenery and magnificent rock formations of Wadi Rum from above as the sun rises. We can also arrange for you to quad bike across the desert, where you can zip around the undulating sand dunes. Alternatively, you can simply relax at the camp and enjoy the otherworldly scenery before the journey to Petra. En route to Petra this afternoon, you will stop at Shobak Crusader Castle. Built in 1115, it was the first of many fortifications built to guard the road from Egypt to Damascus. After a tour of the castle, travel to the Movenpick Hotel in Petra, where you will have the evening at leisure.
The Movenpick Resort, Petra
The best hotel in Petra, due to its location directly at the entrance of the historic city and its spacious, comfortable rooms. You will stay in a Junior Suite which has been newly remodelled and is elegantly designed and decorated. We particularly like the large outdoor balcony, with its fantastic views over the city.
Today it is vital to rise early, to experience Petra before the crowds on an unforgettable private guided tour. Walk through Petra’s Siq as the sun rises and the site comes alive. This is simply the best time of day to first experience the ‘lost city’. Spend the day exploring this vast, unique city exactly at your own pace. There will be an optional journey to the high-up the Monastery, which offers spectacular views of the site, but more gentle meanders around the ‘lost city’ can be equally rewarding. Enjoy a light dinner at the hotel before setting out for a very special private viewing of Petra by night – a truly magical way to see part of the rock city, lit by over 1500 candles.
Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, The Dead Sea
The Dead Sea, sitting 400m below sea level, is the world’s greatest natural spa and has become one of the world’s most exclusive hubs of health and wellness. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and majestic countryside, the 5-star Kempinski Hotel Ishtar sits on the edge of the famous salt lake with uninterrupted views across the vast sea. Staying in an Ishtar Superior Room, the hotel is the perfect place from which to explore the rich culture and history of the area but also a great spot to relax and recharge at the end of an adventure-filled holiday.
Little Petra and the Dead Sea
For those who would like, we have arranged a journey to Little Petra where you will walk by foot to Petra via the ‘back door’. Arrive at the Monastery, the largest facade in Petra and one of the most iconic sites. Getting there before the crowds will give you a totally different perspective on Petra and one we think that shouldn’t be missed. Leave Petra behind and head to the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, driving along the King’s Highway. En route, you will stop at the Lowest Place on Earth and visit the fascinating museum there. Arrive at the Kempinski Ishtar Hotel on the shores of the Dead Sea where you will spend the final two nights of your trip. Relax and unwind at this luxurious hotel where you can enjoy wonderful spa treatments, and also the world’s greatest natural spa: the Dead Sea. Tonight, there will be a special dinner in one of the hotel’s great restaurants.
The Dead Sea, Madaba and Mt. Nebo
This morning we have arranged an optional visit to Mt Nebo, the alleged burial site of Moses. The site overlooks the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea and is also home to one of the best-preserved mosaics in Jordan. You will then visit the mosaic city of Madaba, where the oldest map of the Holy Land exists on the floor of Saint George’s Church. After lunch at your leisure, relax at the outstanding Kempinski Hotel. Float in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea and take advantage of the hotel’s world-renowned luxury spa treatments. This evening you will enjoy a special dinner to celebrate the end of your extraordinary journey to Jordan.
After a relaxing breakfast, begin your journey home. Should you wish to extend your stay at the Dead Sea or would like to arrange any onward travel to visit another of the destinations we specialise in, we would be delighted to arrange this for you.
