About Karen

I fell in love with Latin America whilst spending the third year of my degree living, studying and working in Ecuador, then backpacking through Central America. After leaving university, I volunteered as an interpreter on a Raleigh International Expedition in Chilean Patagonia and travelled further afield into Peru and Brazil. I then went on to work as a tour leader in Latin America, before starting my career as a travel consultant, more than 20 years ago. I love discovering new and exciting places and experiences, and then sharing my passion by crafting bespoke adventures to the many corners of this amazing continent and beyond.

Columbia

I’ve been to Colombia many times, but was delighted to discover some lesser-known areas on my latest trip, including the vast tropical plains of Los Llanos, home to a wealth of fascinating wildlife, and Tayrona National Park. Here, I visited a local indigenous community and went tubing down a river, ending with a delicious picnic lunch on a sandbank. I also stayed at a wonderfully remote private lodge in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountain range, with far reaching views to the ocean and excellent bird watching and hiking.

Chile

I can’t wait to return to Chile, home to some of the most incredible scenery in Latin America, from the rugged and colourful landscapes of the Atacama Desert in the far north to the wilds of Patagonia in the South. It’s an amazing destination for hiking and riding, both of which can be enjoyed from epic lodges such as the Tierra, Explora and Awasi properties. I am also hoping to visit Easter Island for the first time, a place that has always fascinated me due to its remote location, fascinating history and captivating local culture.
