Penny Buckley finds relaxation and adventure in equal measure in Bhutan’s central valleys.
The Punakha Valley sits at 1,200 metres – it is the lowest of the five central valleys of Bhutan. Located there is one of the AMAN group’s five lodges, Amankora. The name is derived from AMAN, the Sanskrit for peace and kora, a Dzongka word used to describe a sacred circular pilgrimage. Although the Suite rooms at all of AMAN’s lodges are almost identical, each lodge is beautiful in its own way. They personify the distinct sophistication and simplicity, Adrian Zecha’s AMAN became known for.
