Having heard from many people that the back-country skiing and off-piste in Japan was some of the best in the world, we knew we needed a Niseko insider to show us around to make the most of it.

We were very lucky with the weather, even having a couple of days of ‘blue birds’- what the locals call the rare days in the winter season when the sky is clear and you have perfect views of Mount Yotei. The backdrop of the active volcano, Mount Yotei, makes skiing in Niseko different from most other resorts, where you can also ski into the crater if the weather allows.
