A honeymoon in South Africa and Mozambique provides the best combination of food, drink, nature, wildlife and glorious beaches. We have created just one example of the kind of extraordinary but affordable honeymoon we can arrange in these two southern African countries – this one taking in Cape Town, Timbavati Game Reserve and Mozambique’s stunning coast.

DAY 1

Fly overnight to Cape Town International Airport.

View from Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa

DAY 2

On arrival in Cape Town, you will be met at the airport and driven to The Trevoyan Guesthouse for two nights. Lying on the slopes of Table Mountain in the Tamboerskloof neighbourhood, this lovely, laid-back, Victorian-style boutique hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring Cape Town or sipping a refreshing drink or reading a book on the rooftop terrace, taking in the wonderful views.

In the afternoon, you can relax by the lovely swimming pool and then, if you like, head up Table Mountain for some sundowners and canapés to watch the lights of the city come on.

DAY 3

On your first full day in South Africa, we suggest visiting some of Cape Town’s highlights with one of our expert guides who will show you the real soul of the city and its surroundings. Everything is totally tailor-made so you can decide from many fascinating experiences, including exploring Robben Island in the company of a former convict, going on a guided walk around the colourful Bo-Kaap suburb, hiking on the Cape Peninsula, or a stand-up paddleboarding or cycling expedition followed by a delicious picnic and gin tasting.

In the evening, we will book you a table at one of our favourite spots for dinner, The Stack. This hidden gem, set within gardens, is a fun French brasserie and bar with flamboyant décor to match its delicious dishes.

DAYS 4-6

Today, you will fly to the Timbavati Private Game Reserve to spend the next three nights at Tanda Tula. This 35,000sq-km private concession lies within Kruger National Park and is home to a phenomenal concentration of wildlife, including Africa’s Big Five.

Situated among enormous trees on the riverbank, the owner-run camp’s 12 elegant and secluded tents boast breathtaking views. Each one features an ensuite bathroom, a Victorian bathtub, an outdoor shower and a spacious deck overlooking the riverbed and African bush. The infinity pool looks out over a large waterhole frequented by wildlife and animals often pass through the camp. The atmosphere is laid-back and down to earth but undoubtedly romantic. Lunches are set up in different locations around the camp and, every evening, the garden is beautifully lit up with lights for dinner.

Here, you’ll spend your days out on game drives and safari walks with the highly experienced guides who will open your eyes to the wonders of the wildlife here. You are likely to spot elephant, lion, leopard, large herds of buffalo, rhino, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, kudu and the rare wild dogs. We have arranged some very special experiences throughout your stay, including a romantic dinner on your private deck and bush breakfast set out on the banks of the riverbed. We also recommend a night out under the stars on a wonderful ‘starbed’, positioned 5m above the ground on a wooden platform illuminated with lanterns.

DAYS 7-10

Today, you will be taken to Kruger Airport, from where you will fly to Vilanculos in southern Mozambique. From there, you will be met and driven to asDunas Lodge, a gorgeous spot overlooking the islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, for the next four nights.

Hidden away amid lush coastal vegetation, asDunas is a small, owner-run, safari-style beach lodge set up on a cliff with stunning views over the ocean and to the Bazaruto Archipelago islands in the distance. The coast here is lined with sun-baked beaches lapped by the turquoise Indian Ocean. Here, you will sleep in a beautiful, tented suite – one of just six – and enjoy the stunning sea views from the deck and your private plunge pool.

This is the perfect place to end your honeymoon. You can spend your days relaxing on this isolated, totally unspoilt beach, setting out on a boat, scuba-diving, snorkelling, fishing, canoeing, horse riding or enjoying your complimentary daily massages. You can also visit the growing coastal town of Vilanculos, which is full of colourful markets, vibrant cafés and bars. We can also arrange some fun and interesting experiences discovering coconut plantations and rural fishing villages inland.

DAY 11

On your last day, you will be driven to Vilanculos airport, from where you will fly to Johannesburg to connect with your international flight home.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

South Africa is a year-round destination, thanks to its size and vast range of different landscapes and attractions. The Western Cape is hot and dry in the country’s summer months between November and February. In the east, the dry season (between May and September) means animals tend to congregate around rivers and waterholes. Mozambique is best visited during the drier months of April to September when temperatures are slightly cooler.
